Kimhae, located at the southeastern tip of Korean peninsula, borders with Changwon and Jinhae to the west, Miryang to the north with Nakdong River in between, Busan and Yangsan to the east, and South Sea to the south. Kimhae is promoted to urban - rural composite city status on May, 1995 with 1 town, 7 subcounties and 9 dongs. It occupies 463.36 square kilometer, taking up 4.4 % of the total land surface area of the Gyeongnam (10,5418.3 §´), and about 0.5% of Korea (99,393.81§´). Kimhae is 27 km long east to west and 32 km long north to south. It is the 13th largest of 20 cities and counties in the South Gyeongsang province.

As Kimhae is located in the temperate zone, it has distinct four seasons. Due to the influence of coastal climate, Kimhae is one of the mildest regions in Korea and the climate is suitable for human activities. The annual average temperature is about 15¡É, and annual average precipitation is 1,200mm, which is similar to that of Korea of 1,274mm and a little higher than that of world's average of 973mm.

Kimhae, located at the lower Nakdong River, has earned the prestige as a port of intermediate trade since the Gaya dynasty in 5th century. This is proved by the fact that ¡®Taekliji¡¯ of Lee Jung-Hwan published in late Joseon period counts Kimhae as the transportation hub taking lion¡¯s share of commerce in Gyeosang Province. Presently, Kimhae is also performing a key role of a transportation center with Namhae Expressway, Kyeongjeon Railway, and Gimhane International Airport, which provide easy access to the city from all directions.

With these well-appointed traffic networks, Kimhae is an industrial city where some 5,200 numbers of businesses are vigorously expanding the economical activities. In 2006 alone, Kimhae¡¯s trade volume reached US$30.9 Million with US$1.88 Billion in export and US$1.21 Million in imports.

The Kimhae city is a place of history, culture and the seat of Geumgwan Gaya government where you can experience the relics of King Suro's Royal Tomb, Daeseong-dong Ancient Tombs and Bonghwang-dong.

With the given condition, Kimhae will do utmost efforts to build a city of history, tourist, education, convenient transportation and pleasant environment.
